What is Manifold?

Liquid cooling Manifold is a pipe device for heat dissipation. Through specific pipe design and structure, the cooling liquid is used as the cooling medium, and the cooling liquid is efficiently diverted to each device that needs cooling through the pipe, so that its temperature is reduced and the normal and stable operation of the equipment is ensured.



Application scenarios of Manifold?

In the core architecture of liquid cooling technology, Manifold plays an extremely important role. As a key component connecting the main pipeline between the liquid cooling cabinet CDU and the cold plate, it is an important bridge for the entire liquid cooling circulation channel.

Important role of Manifold

(I) Evenly distribute cooling medium

Manifold plays a key distribution role in the liquid cooling system. Due to its ultra-high precision manufacturing, it can ensure that the cooling medium is evenly distributed to each branch, so that each layer of single board can get the appropriate cooling medium. This even distribution is crucial to improving heat dissipation efficiency.

(II) Support quick plug-in maintenance
Manifold cooperates with liquid cooling quick connectors to provide a reliable connection for online plug-in maintenance of single boards. Liquid cooling quick connector is a connector that includes a male and a female, and both male and female connectors have fluid cutoff function. When the male and female connectors are connected, the fluid is connected to supply liquid to the cold plate on the single board; when the male and female connectors are disconnected, the single board liquid supply is interrupted, and the fluid will not leak into the system or outside the single board. This design makes it unnecessary to shut down the entire liquid cooling system when performing single board maintenance, greatly improving the efficiency and convenience of maintenance.

(III) Assisting the construction of green data centers
As part of the liquid cooling system, Manifold plays an important role in reducing the energy consumption of data centers. Liquid cooling technology itself has the characteristics of efficient heat dissipation and low energy consumption, and Manifold further improves the efficiency of the liquid cooling system and reduces energy consumption by reasonably allocating cooling media. Compared with traditional air cooling systems, liquid cooling systems can save a lot of energy consumption. According to relevant data, data centers using liquid cooling technology can reduce energy consumption by more than 30%.



Manifold new process?

At present, Manifold is mainly made of stainless steel, but at the data center exhibition last week, I saw a Japanese company using resin as raw material and injection molding to make Manifold. According to the person in charge of the company, the cost and weight of the product will be greatly reduced. It is currently used in Japan's Fugaku Supercomputing Center. This is the first time I have seen a resin Manifold. As for whether it can be used in large quantities in the future, it still needs to be verified by downstream manufacturers.
